Engine:

1959 - A new era for ford and one to see an engine design last till the present day, the new KENT engine found in the new Ford Anglia 105E replaced the previous side valve range in the 100E’s and in 997cc trim made 39bhp. Ford soon added a 1200cc version in response to other manufacturers increasing their engine sizes.

The 996.6cc version featured overhead valves and an over square design of 80.97 bore X 48.412mm stroke, it came in 3 compression ratios: Standard 8.9:1 for the domestic UK market, and 2 optional export versions Pre 09/1963 7.5:1 and Post 09/1963 8.0:1 for use with regular grade fuels. Power outputs were quoted at 39bhp@5000rpm and 52.85lb.ft@5000rpm for the domestic 8.9:1 CR.

The 1198cc version had an over stroked version of the 997cc version still very over square at 80.97mm bore and 58.17mm stroke, only two compression ratios were produced; 8.7:1 for domestic customers and 7.3:1 being the optional export version.

Power was raised to 48.5HP@4800rpm and 63lb.ft@4800rpm for the domestic version.

Today most respectable street Anglia’s feature the Kent engine in 1600 or 1700 format and producing anything up to and over 150HP, these engines are use the later crossflow head design which moves the induction to the drivers side of the engine bay.
